Charging cards and roaming abroad

Roaming means your charging card works with other providers than your own. It is convenient, but not always cheap.

How roaming works

Your provider has agreements with other networks, so you can start a charge with your own card or app. You pay your own provider, which pays the network. Your provider sets the price, and it can be higher than the network's own ad hoc price. Which networks are big in each country is in EV charging networks in Europe.

Check the price before you charge

You can see the roaming price in your provider's app, often for each charging location. Some providers have a fixed roaming price. Others pass on the price and add a surcharge. If the difference is large, pay ad hoc instead, by bank card or in the network's own app.

Good advice

Have at least one charging card that works in most of Europe.
Keep a bank card ready for new rapid chargers.
If you charge a lot with the same network on your trip, use that network's own app.
