EV holiday in Spain
Spain is the longest drive of the big holiday destinations. It is perfectly doable in an electric car, but plan your charging stops through France.
Getting there
You drive through Germany and France. Read the guides for both countries, including the péage and the Crit'Air sticker.
Charging networks
Iberdrola | bp pulse has more than 2,000 charge points in Spain (2026), and almost 70% of them deliver 150 kW or more. Zunder, Tesla, IONITY, Electra and Atlante also have rapid chargers. See more in EV charging networks in Europe.
Motorway tolls
Some motorways (autopista, AP) have tolls. Others (autovía, A) are free.
Low-emission zones
Several Spanish cities have low-emission zones (ZBE). Foreign cars cannot get the Spanish environmental label. In Barcelona, foreign cars, including electric cars, must be registered before entering the zone. Check the rules for the city you are going to.
Speed
The limit is 50 km/h in towns, 90 km/h on country roads and 120 km/h on motorways.
Winter
Winter tyres are not mandatory, and studded tyres are not allowed. You may use snow chains when there is snow.
